Looking Out on a Spring Day

The sun streams through the fan
in the window, casting
a flickering image
On the floor, the couch,
the paper, me.
I consider the impermanence
of life.
The unpredictability
The pain
I gaze out the window-
focusing on nothing in particular.
I gaze out again and
thoughts pour out from every
corner of my mind
Emptying into a delta of reminiscence
Cascading over my earlier
considerations.
My own life's pain is
diluted with love.
From an unknown spring
The warm feeling of joy
wells up.
I smile in response to
the warmth
And know I can deal
with anything today.
